Good news from the Office of His Holiness, The Dalai Lama: A reader of my book, The World Peace Diet, recently sent His Holiness the Dalai Lama a copy of the book and received the reply below from the Dalai Lama's secretary, that the Dalai Lama is now prohibiting the serving of meat in his monastery, and that this practice is being followed by all the main Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in India. It is a strong confirmation of the important progress being made in promoting compassion for animals in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. There is also wonderful news from the Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. His Holiness Orgyen Trinle Dorje, the Karmapa XVII has issued the following statement: No meat is to be prepared in the kitchen of any Kagyu Monastery or Centre. No one is to be involved in the business of buying and selling meat – for all of his students this practice must stop.
